Meet Abderazak Ali – Leadership That Listens

I’m Abderazak Ali, and I’m running for Mayor of Hopkins to put people first. I’ve lived in Hopkins for the past decade, building connections, solving problems, and working to make our city a place where every neighbor can thrive.

Before coming to Minnesota, I spent 15 years in some of the world’s largest refugee camps—Al Kharaz in Yemen, Shagarab in Sudan, and Chousha in Tunisia. Those years taught me lessons no classroom could: how to solve problems with limited resources, how to bring people together across differences, and how to never give up on a better future. These are the same values I’ve carried into my work here—leading nonprofit programs that connect families to housing, creating opportunities for young people, and inspiring thousands through community storytelling.

As Mayor, I will:

• Lower the cost of living so families can build their future in Hopkins.
• Support small businesses and grow local jobs.
• Improve public safety while building trust in every neighborhood.
• Strengthen community connections so every voice is heard and valued.

My journey from the challenges of refugee life to the opportunities of Hopkins isn’t just my story—it’s proof that with the right leadership, our city can be a place where everyone belongs and prospers.
